Super Crunch Time

With so little time to spare, I don’t really know if I have stuff done and that I’m just being picky with details, or if I still have a lot to do. It’s so strange how the average person has never put together such a big “production” in their lives and suddently, when they become engaged, they’re supposed to plan and execute a big “show.” How does someone with little to no experience end up making it all happen?

Well, it’s super crunch time now and it’s time to get that list finished. My advice to future brides… get the list done asap. Act as if you have 2 weeks to go eventhough you may have 5 months. This way, you can enjoy your last few weeks. Of course, there will automatically be a list of things to do in the last month, but this way, you won’t have so many little things that should’ve been taken care of months ago. The time just really slips away from you when you’re planning a wedding.

Casual Negotiations

So I went to a bakery yesterday with my parents since it was recommended by our banquet restaurant. After hearing that we were recommended by so-and-so, the lady said, she’d give us 10% off because of the recommendation.

Of course, the price was still fairly high so my dad asked if she could make it any cheaper. She paused for about 5 seconds and knocked off 20% of the original asking price. I suppose probably could’ve knocked more off if we really pushed, but  we figured it would not be in good taste to do so, since this bakery sells a lot of cakes to wedding parties of that restaurant.

I found it funny that we just asked for a cheaper price and it was so easy for her to drop it. Too bad it doesn’t always work that way. Haha. I suppose this means other people are being ripped off unless they just casually ask for a discount.

Chaotic Cafe

When I stepped out of the train station today, I could feel the crisp autumn air on my face. So much for our freakish summer-like weather this past weekend. The chilly weather was merely a good excuse for enjoying a nice cup of hot chocolate or even the hot apple cider. Yum. So, I decided I’d stop at a cafe and get one.

I decided to try a new cafe, and today I wandered into a Segafredo Zanetti. This particular one that I went to was on a fairly main and highly foot trafficked street, but due to lack of space, it was a long and narrow cafe.

When I first walked in, I didn’t know where to go, but saw a line for the cashier, which was halfway into the rectangle. After I placed my order (decided to go for a more exotic flavored tea), they told me to head outwards where the baristas were making orders. Apparently, I wasn’t the only confused patron of the cafe.
After I placed my order, it took about 3-5 minutes before I got my cup of hot water, which was only 4″ filled up on a 5″ cup. And the top is the biggest part of the cup! I wanted to say that they didn’t quite finish filling the cup, but just wanted to get out of there and never go back.

So here I am sipping my hot tea. I decided that since it was a bit too hot, I supplemented it with some room temp water. Stupid cafe. Their price of tea was 20% more than Starbucks!

New Climbing Level

Woohoo! After much eyeing on my part of the higher levels, wondering if I could advance another level, I attempted a new route today. It was quite the struggle towards the top, and after much slipping on the foot holds, I made it to the top. It was a bittersweet feeling as I was thrilled to have made it to the top, but also a tad bitter that it took so many tries to get the last hold. Oh well, at least I made it. heheh.

Did five climbs today: 5.8, 10a, 10c, 11c, 5.9. A good day in my book.

Atkins Bars

Every so often while I’m walking to my office, I see folks handing out free treats by the station. Now, normally, people love grabbing free yogurt or drinks, but today, I saw people handing out free Atkins bars. I did not see the usual rush to grab the freebie. I suppose the Atkins fad diet is over.

I suppose the Atkins craze wasn’t all that bad because it made people aware that too many carbs mixed with zero activity leads to fat. Of course, cutting it out completely is also totally insane. While I’m not dietician, I know that moderation is the key to a healthy life.

Busy Busy

So with a few weeks remaining, I’m finding myself scrambling around trying to finish up my list of things to do before the wedding. Of course, you’re supposed to focus on only the things that matter at this point, but the thing is, what matters to me are doing all the details the way I want!

A common question that people ask is, “So, are you all done with wedding planning?” The answer for nearly any bride will be, “Nope. I’m still finishing up some details.”

I’m not really sure why that is, but one explanation is that there are certain things you can’t work on until the last month, such as finalizing guestlist and money matters with the venues. Also, you need to do seating arrangements, which also means you need to do place cards and whatnot.
Of course, there are those slacker guests who don’t return the reply cards and also don’t call you back when you check up on them. Oh well, I guess if they just turn up, we’ll just have to turn them away. Haha. Just kidding….sorta…

Google Visitor Topic

So today’s random google visitor topic is “baby touppee.” Umm… first of all, it’s spelled “toupee.” Oops, that must mean I spelled it wrong in a previous entry. Second of all, what does a baby need a toupee for? Well, perhaps the baby in question is not actually a baby, but a 2-3 year old who’s got no hair and the parents are embarassed that their child has no hair. Therefore, they go out looking for a hair piece for their kid so it doesn’t get made fun of at daycare.

Another thing is that they are trying to play dress up on their kid. Say, they are doing the outfit which makes them look like a mini Donald Trump. I ran a search and got to this link. Freaky I say…

People Tetris

When I was younger, I loved playing the arcade game Tetris. Now that I think about it, I also enjoyed playing Dr. Mario, this 3d Tetris-type game or any of those other puzzle games. I suppose I’m just a fan of puzzles.

Anyways so I’ve been working on a seating plan for my guests and I realized that you have to group certain people together cuz they know so and so, or maybe some people don’t get along with each other. Well, I realized that you have a limited number of seats at a table and certain blocks to piece together. It makes me think of a very complicated game of Tetris, or perhaps the part in Tetris where you tried to get the 4 lines eliminated all at once.

RSVP Deadline Results

So today was the deadline for sending in people’s reply cards. Here are the results of returned cards:

Event 1: 86.8% replied
Event 2: 87.3% replied
I think a few more will be trickling in tomorrow since some people probably mailed in today.

Learning to Climb

So I went climbing with some friends yesterday and one of them was fairly a newbie. I tried giving some advice although it was only semi-successful. I suppose that when I give advice, it’s not going to take effect right away although I’m sure my friend would’ve loved that. It’s just a matter of time when you’re learning a new sport that it gets to the point where everything clicks. That all the things people are trying to teach you suddenly make sense. Keep at it Raf! You’ll get it soon.

Climbed only 4 routes although 2 of them were quite long. 5.9, 10b, 5.9, 10a/b. I suppose that’s taking it easy for me.
