One Week To Go

It’s been a busy past few days for us in preparation of listing our place. We made yet another trip to drop off some boxes at our friend’s garage for storage. It’s definitely looking a lot more empty in our 3rd bedroom (which we use as an office) and all of the storage parts of our place (closets, pantry, etc).

After all the packing and such, I think we’re at a good place in terms of moving on to cleaning. Woohoo, no more packing! Packing for staging is a bit annoying because you’re still going to be living in the same place but very minimally, so you have to figure out what you will need. Plus, you don’t know how long it’ll take to sell your place, so you might pack something, only to find that you need it.

I did a bunch of cleaning today, along with buying some cute towels for our master bedroom. Not for using, but for show. Apparently, you should display different towels when you put your house on the market than the ones you use daily. Towels are supposed to look fresh and absolutely clean. And I discovered that if you’re putting out towels that have been in storage, pop them into the dryer for 5-10 minutes to make them look fluffy and wrinkle-free.

The Prepping Continues

So I suppose after a bit of settling, we noticed that there’s a bubble in our new fake-stone-tile-looking-linoleum. Eek. We’re going to have to contact the installers.

Recapping yesterday… I went to IKEA and then Bed Bath to find some linens for our master suite. Nothing says open house like a really impractically cozy bed. You know, the kind where you have 8 pillows. Fun.
Hmm… we didn’t do too much today. A little bit of packing and cleaning.

New Floors Done!

It took 3 guys 2.5 hours to add new linoleum in our kitchen, 2 full baths and 1 toilet room. Now that’s what I call fast. I’m very happy with the final product. Hopefully it will help us sell our place faster.

The Prepping is Getting There

So I’m starting to feel as though we’re making some real progress here. We moved a few things away to a friend’s garage over the weekend, along with a big donation run. Sunday we did pretty much nothing because it was a day of rest.

Yesterday we organized and cleaned, along with moving some things around. Took out some stains from the carpet too (with a Spot Bot that I borrowed). The linoleum guy came to measure the kitchen and bathrooms for putting in some new linoleum. It’s going to be this nicer grade of linoleum that is supposed to simulate slate tiles. It’s got the look of the right texture with a partly shaded grout line for added depth to boot!

We’ve also set a date to list our place. It’s in less than 2 weeks. Eeek!

Another Prepping Day

So we pretty much took Wednesday off from prepping our place but picked it right back up yesterday. Let’s see…

-packed more boxes and set stuff aside for donations
-swapped clear bulbs for white bulbs in downstairs bathroom
-cleaned grease off stove/oven (it actually has some shine!)
-dismantled 2nd desk in office
-selected small photos for hanging in bathrooms

I think we’ve gotta move some things out and make a donation run. Then the space will really clear up.

More Home Prepping

So it was another night of cleaning and packing yesterday

-Vacuumed the guest room
-Put doors back onto closet
-Put more stuff into give away pile
-Packed more boxes

I’m wondering if we can live without most of the things we’re packing up. Old things yes, but what about martini glasses or a or a sake set (we’re not big drinkers)?

More cleaning and organizing tonight!

The Staging Continues

So I’ve been packing like mad lately to prepare our place for sale. We’re starting to see some actual progress, which is nice.

We packed up the guestroom and rearranged some furniture. I’d say it looks bigger than before.

The kitchen counters are cleaned off, which makes it look very open. Still need to clear off the breakfast bar though.

I finally moved out the first few boxes to my friend Jennie. Thanks Jennie! Our stuff is going to live at her place for a while. Nothing very important but stuff I want to keep.

What room shall I work on tonight?

Yay… it works again… and other things

So my blog was down for a little while due to some technical difficulties. Anyway, it’s back up! Hooray!

Anyway, what’s new with Scarf Girl? Well, Scarf Girl and, uh, Scarf (Boy?) are looking to sell our place. Yeah, yeah, it’s “not the best time” but hey, it’s better than 6 months from now. So, I’ve been brushing up on this “staging your home” phenomenon (well, it’s not that new, it just seems uber trendy now), and watching my newest favorite HGTV show “Get It Sold.” That lady sure knows how to transform a place with minimal cost. Just a bit of elbow grease and some creativity.

I’ll be posting some before and afters soon enough. We just have to get through this packing up enough items to make our place look clutter free, but not so empty that it looks like nobody lives there.
